Terminal Attack Controller Party members train Special Operations Terminal Attack Controller Course

Personnel are trained in the technical and tactical skills and operational procedures necessary to effectively utilize rotary-wing and fixed-wing Close Air Support (CAS) assets in support of Special Operations Forces (SOF) missions. Personnel are trained in the capabilities and limitations of US fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms and munitions, lasers and ground marking equipment, night and urban CAS, and close air planning and control. Personnel achieve Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) qualification by making a minimum of 12 live controls and evaluation IAW Joint Close Air Support (JCAS) Action Plan Memorandum of agreement 2004-01, Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) (Ground) dated Oct. 1, 2007 .

**NOTE** Students may not receive the required 12 calls or evaluation.

NOTE: The 4-week course includes three weeks of academic and a week of live-fire training controlling Close Air Support.  The 3-week academic course does not include the week of live fire.  Students attending the 4 week course should bring their own body armor, helmets and PRC-152/148 as well as helmet mounted NVGs.

  • 1-year operational experience
  • Completion of map training
  • Completion of basic fire support training 
  • Basic knowledge of the PSN-13 DAGR GPS
Each SOTACC is required to arrive with a signed letter from their Joint Terminal Attack Controller Program Manager or Squadron/Battalion Commander verifying their 1-year operational experience, completion of the required prerequisites and basic knowledge of map reading and the PSN-13 DAGR GPS.

**Required equipment: compass, mirror, body armor, helmet, Peltor, PRC-152 or 148, PVS-14 helmet mount, PSN-13 DAGR GPS

tabReporting Instructions
Yuma Proving Ground does NOT have government quarters. Students are required to make their own reservations at the Comfort Inn, 10553 S. Fortuna Road, Yuma, Ariz. (928) 305-9000. State that you are part of SOTACC. Lodging rate is $69 per night, breakfast included. Students will gather at 7 a.m. in the lobby on the start date of the class. After a roll call at the lodging office, students will be escorted to the SOTACC building by a SOTACC cadre member. The training site is located approximately 28 miles from the lodging area. Rental vehicles are required. Recommend students travel on Saturday prior to a Monday class start date in case of delays.
