Chief Master Sergeant Michael P. Gilbert is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, FL. The command is a major command of the U. S. Air Force and the Air Force component of U.S. Special Operations Command. AFSOC provides Air Force Special Operations Forces for worldwide deployment and assignment to unified combatant commanders. The command has approximately 16,000 active-duty, Reserve, Air National Guard and civilian Airmen.

Chief Gilbert entered the Air Force in March 1981, and has served as a heavy equipment operator, an NCOIC of special operations weather teams, a flight chief, a first sergeant for maintenance, flying, and security forces squadrons, the USAF first sergeant career field manager, an action officer for the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, and the Chief of Enlisted Force Development on the Air Staff. In 1990, he led a 16-man weather team supporting the Army's XVIII Airborne Corps in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In 1992, his weather team earned the USAF Grimes Award for the most combat-ready tactical weather team in all Air Force and Army support. In 1999, he was the deployed first sergeant of the 43d Expeditionary Electronic Combat Squadron at Aviano Air Base, Italy, supporting Operations ALLIED FORCE and NOBLE ANVIL. He is a jumpmaster, and an honor graduate of both Weather Forecasting School and the US Army Special Forces Combat Diver Course.
