The 720th Special Tactics Group is an integral part of the Air Force Special Operations Command and is home-based at Hurlburt Field, Fla. The Group is comprised of more than 800 Special Tactics combat controllers, pararescuemen, special operations weathermen, tactical air control party and various support personnel.

The 720th STG organizes, trains and equips ST forces worldwide to integrate, synchronize, and/or control the elements of air and space power in the area of operations. It also provides long-range operational and logistics planning, and deploys command and control elements during special tactics force employment or deployment.

Special Tactics Squadrons are specifically organized, trained and equipped to execute a myriad of Special Operations missions to enhance air operations deep in enemy territory. They conduct personnel recovery missions, collect intelligence and provide terminal guidance for attacks against valuable enemy targets.

SOWT generate high fidelity, localized, mission tailored forecasts for ingress, employment, and egress of air, land and sea forces in support of U.S. Special Operations Command elements.

The Group has six squadrons in the continental United States - the 10th Combat Weather Squadron, 23rd Special Tactics Squadron and 720th Operations Support Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Fla., the 21st STS at Pope Field, N.C., the 22nd STS at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. and the 17th Air Support Operations Squadron at Fort Benning, Ga. There are several AFSOC gained Air National Guard weather flights as well: the 107th Weather Flight in Selfridge Michigan, 181st WF located at Carswell JRB, Texas, and the 146th WF in Pittsburgh, Penn.

The 720th STG is also the functional manager for AFSOC's two overseas squadrons: the 320th Special Tactics Squadron under the command of the 353rd Special Operations Group, Kadena Air Base, Japan and the 321st STS under the command of the 352nd Special Operations Group at RAF Mildenhall, England.

The 123rd STS and 125th STS, Air National Guard units based at Standiford Field, Ky. and Portland International Airport, Ore., augment the 720th STG in supporting of national security objectives, humanitarian efforts and training.
